Sixty Days Car Free As I Can Be

I love all the bikes.

I love them all. Cruisers, commuters, road bikes, beater bikes, mountain bikes, kids bikes, sleek bikes, shiny bikes. I love all the bikes. In celebration of this love, and also because my daughter finally received her drivers license, I have decided to embark on an all-bike experiment. For sixty days I plan to be what I will refer to As Car Free As I Can Be.  At a minimum I will ride my bike to work every day. I will awaken each morning, clip into my pedals and ride and ride and ride. I will ride in the sun, in the rain, in the cold, in the heat. I will watch the sun rise and set.  I will ride my bike on errands, to dinner, to the grocery store, the fabric store, the beach and the bar. I will do this for a multitude of reasons. I will save money, I will leave a lighter carbon footprint. I will gain fitness and health. I will no longer drive my daughter to school and home from school, to practice and back again. We will save 50% of our car trips as she transports herself to her destination. I will open my eyes, I will not sit in traffic. I will live what I believe, which in this arena is simple; I believe the world is better when you live it outside. I believe the world is better by bike.

  1. I like you. Even more than you like bikes. Besides which, you are far cuter than most bikes.
